What qualifications are required to become a member of the Institute?
This varies considerably, depending on the candidate.
The candidate may have gained construction knowledge over many years within a trade background, having advanced through management positions, with responsibilities associated with site inspection.
The candidate may have achieved various construction qualifications and is possibly already in a Clerk of Works or similar role and is now seeking recognition within the construction industry or via their employer.
How do I join the Institute?
Complete the membership application form and returning it to ICWCI together with an up-to-date CV, reference from present employer/recent client (confirming present position, responsibilities and tenure of office), copies of any construction related qualifications achieved and the entrance fee of £70.
To complete the online application form, click the gold 'join us' box at the top of this screen.
What happens next?
Once an application has been received it will be processed. The candidate will then be invited to attend an interview at the nearest Chapter venue with an available interview slot.
Eligibility for a particular grade of membership will depend on the outcome of the interview. The interview panel will consider the candidate's experience, qualifications and construction knowledge when making this decision.
Within approximately six weeks, the candidate will be notified of the result of their interview and if they have been successful they will be advised of their election date to the grade of either Student, Licentiate or Member. Once their election date has passed and they have paid their first subscription fee, the individual may use the designatory letters they have been awarded (which correspond to the appropriate grade of membership).
If you have any question related to membership of the Institute, please contact the Institute and ask to speak to our membership administrator.
