You should have a degree (or equivalent qualification or relevant professional experience). Clerk of Works (full time and permanent)

We are looking for a highly motivated, organised and experienced Clerk of Works to join our expanding Building Surveying team at John Rowan and Partners to ensure that a consistently high standard of quality control and supervision is maintained for each contract.

Buildings and Maintenance Manager

Oxford - Permanent - Full time 

University College Oxford is seeking an experienced residential buildings industry professional to head its maintenance team.  He or she will be responsible for the long term care of the fabric of the College’s buildings and other premises, which include the Grade I listed properties on the High Street; be accountable for driving value-for-money from a budget in excess of £1 million p.a. as well as advise the College on the condition and investment needs of its wider estates.  The role has the potential to grow into more commercial decision-making, supporting wider estates management and programmes of major capital investment works, depending upon qualifications and experience.

The ideal candidate will have up-to-date knowledge of key building regulations; a track record of project management; excellent inter-personal, communication and staff management skills.  Sound judgement, the ability to multi-task, assess information, determine priorities and work to tight deadlines in a busy and demanding environment are essential.  BIFM level 5, or membership of ICWCI, CIOB or RICS is preferred.  You will be IT proficient and numerate.  Experience of Grade I listed buildings is desirable.

Clerk of Works/Technical Inspector (part time) 

Based in Worthing

The ideal candidate will have:
· Sound knowledge of building construction
· Strong contractor monitoring skills, particularly, in respect of workmanship quality
· Up to date knowledge of the housing sector, best practice and relevant legislation
· Ability to establish appropriate working relationships with contractor’s staff and to be persuasive and      diplomatic.
· Good judgement skills to decide on when to insist on corrections, when to persuade or negotiate
· Confidence to undertake inspections at high level via safe working platforms and ladders
· Strong awareness of appropriate construction & maintenance Health & Safety working practises

Main responsibilities:
· Monitor progress of works in-line with the agreed works programmes.
· Identify defect items upon completion of works and check/sign-off completion of all outstanding items prior to handover.
· In conjunction with the Contractor and/or Agent; attend formal handover and 12month end of defect inspections. 
· Be available out of normal working hours to undertake inspections and resident liaison as required
· Assist with verifying the accuracy of contractors’ valuations / interim payments.
· As required, undertake pre and post inspections of responsive maintenance jobs and instruct appropriate contractors to undertake repairs by raising electronic works orders.
