What qualifications are required to become a member of the Institute?

This varies considerably, depending on the candidate.

The candidate may have gained construction knowledge over many years within a trade background, having advanced through management positions, with responsibilities associated with site inspection.

or

The candidate may have achieved various construction qualifications and is possibly already in a Clerk of Works or similar role and is now seeking recognition within the construction industry or via their employer.

How do I join the Institute?

Complete the desired application form and return it to ICWCI together with an up-to-date CV, reference from present employer/recent client (confirming present position, responsibilities and tenure of office), copies of any construction-related qualifications achieved and an entrance fee of £150.00 for Member grade or £100.00 for Associate Member grade.

To complete one of our online application forms for Member or Associate Member grade, click the gold 'join us' box at the top of this screen and select the relevant form for the grade you wish to apply for.

What happens next?

Once an application has been received, it will be processed. The candidate will then be invited to complete a competency report if it is an application for Member grade; if he/she successfully passes that stage, they will be subsequently invited to attend an interview.

The full assessment will consider the candidate's competency, experience, qualifications and construction knowledge.

Within approximately six weeks of receiving a completed competency report, we aim to carry out the interview and notify the candidate of the result. If they have been successful, they will be advised of their election date to the grade of membership that they are offered.  Once their election date has passed, and they have paid their first subscription fee, the individual may use the designatory letters they have been awarded.

If the candidate has applied for Associate Member grade, they will be invited to complete a report that will then be sent on to our membership hub for assessment. If they pass this stage, they will be subsequently informed of their successful application and their name will be added to our next election list. Once their election date has passed, and they have paid their first subscription fee, the individual may use the designatory letters Assoc. ICWCI.
